A hello from Dr Whitfield
I set up Riverbank in 2009 because I wanted to run the kind of practice I'd want to be a patient at. Time to listen, no upselling, and a team that remembers you between visits.
A good chunk of the people we look after came to us nervous, having not been to a dentist in years. There's no judgement here, ever. We'll go at whatever pace feels right and get you back on top of things gently.

Questions we get asked most
Are you taking on new NHS patients?
Not at the moment, and we would rather say so plainly than keep you on a list for two years. We are a private practice, our fees are published in full on the Fees page, and there is a monthly plan from £16 if you would rather spread it.
What happens at a first appointment?
A full examination, X-rays if you need them, a look at your gums, and a written treatment plan with costs before anything is booked. It takes about 40 minutes and costs £75.
I am genuinely frightened of the dentist. Can you help?
Yes, and you are in good company: it is the single most common thing people tell us on the phone. Say so when you book and we will give you a longer appointment, talk through everything before we do it, and stop the moment you ask.
Do you see children?
We do, from their first tooth. Children under 12 are seen free of charge when a parent is registered with the practice.
What if something happens out of hours?
Registered patients can call the practice number and follow the emergency prompt. We keep same-day slots back every morning for exactly this.
